Special board meeting held to discuss bond development(SPS) -- On February 3, Sapulpa Public Schools board of education members met with district administrators, architects and project coordinators to discuss the next steps to develop a bond proposal for a new high school.

Board members Melinda Ryan, Larry Hoover, Steve McCormick and board president Wayne Richards, heard revised plans from Superintendent Rob Armstrong.

Mr. Armstrong remains optimistic and excited about finalizing a bond proposal resolution for a new high school, but says plans have been adjusted to take rising costs of construction and materials into account.

David Reed of Reed Architecture and Interiors of Sapulpa and Ian Kilpatrick with DLR Group, who represent the firms chosen by the district to design the new high school once a bond issue is affirmed by voters, attended the meeting and gave an overview of a phased process to build a new campus.

The first phase would include a new school building for 9th-12th grades and a renovation of Sapulpa Junior High School.

Representatives from Nabholz, the construction management team named to oversee the project, took questions from board members regarding current and anticipated construction costs. Zack Robinson of BOK Financial fielded inquiries about millage rates and ongoing general obligation (GO) bonds.

The next steps in the process will include a long-range planning meeting in late February to seek feedback from community members on  the phased plan. Board members must approve a bond resolution in order to send the issue to Creek County voters.
