At a later celebration, Heard was joined by Lady Chieftain teammates, head coach Darlean Calip, assistant coaches Nicky Cooper and Josh Littlebear, her sister, Tyla, a junior basketball player for the Lady Chieftains, and her parents, Lila Osceola-Heard and Tony Heard, who both played basketball at the University of Tulsa.

Throughout three seasons, Stailee has scored 1,165 points for the Lady Chieftains, earning all-state honors. She'll join her team in chasing the next state championship in 2023 before she graduates from Sapulpa High School and heads to Stillwater to start practice on the court with the OSU Cowgirls.

Stailee Heard

Heard comes from basketball roots as her mom and dad both played collegiate basketball at the University of Tulsa. Her dad, Tony, made it to the Elite Eight with the Golden Hurricane in 2000 while her mom, Lila, finished with over 1,000 points in her collegiate career at Tulsa. Lila currently coaches the 9th grade girls basketball team at Sapulpa.

Stailee is a four-year starter for the varsity girls basketball team. In her time at Sapulpa, she has made it to two 5A state championship games winning one in 2021. In her junior season, she surpassed 1,000 career points and led her team in points, assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks per game. Returning for her senior season, she is “looking forward to winning state and improving [her] game."

Stailee was heavily recruited, but chose Oklahoma State University “because the coaching staff made it feel like home."

She has high hopes for her collegiate career and plans on achieving big things in Stillwater.

“Hopefully it’ll be an easy transition," Heard said. “I’m looking forward to having fun and hopefully winning the NCAA tournament."

Sapulpa head varsity girls basketball coach, Darlean Calip, has coached Stailee for all four years of her high school career and has always seen greatness in her.

“[Stailee] loves to compete in every phase of the game," Coach Calip explained. “There aren’t many kids like that these days…kids that have self-drive, self-determination, [and] self-preparation. I love her competitive spirit and [her] will to do whatever is asked of her to help her team win."

Coach Calip is looking forward to seeing Stailee develop and grow her skills at the next level.

“She has so much untapped potential and growth," she says.

Heard and the Lady Chieftains begin their hunt for their second 5A state title in three years this November.
