(SPS) -- Oklahoma Senator-Elect Todd Gollihare  (R-OK, District 12) visited Sapulpa Junior-Senior High School in recognition of Constitution Day.

The Senator-Elect, a former Kellyville school board member and leadership teacher at Kellyville High School, took over as teacher for the day in government classes.

Sen.-Elect Gollihare, a 25-year combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps and former Chief U.S. Probation Officer, explained to students the history of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the branches of government and each branch's level of power.

Sen.-Elect Gollihare, who rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as a Marine, will be sworn in as a senator at the state capitol in Oklahoma City in November. He
will take over state senate District 12, serving Creek County and part of Tulsa County. He says he appreciates visiting schools and meeting educators and students.

Constitution Day is observed annually on September 17, the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia. Each student received a pocket Constitution.
