Chieftains wrestlers place at State

Chieftains wrestling headed to state(SPS) -- UPDATE, Feb. 27 -- Three Chieftain wrestlers took the podium at the conclusion of the OSSAA State Wrestling tournament at Jim Norick Arena in Oklahoma City over the weekend.

Liz Cope, a junior, was runner-up in girls' wrestling in her weight class.

Senior Cooper Thomas and junior Cavin Peper each placed 3rd in 5A in their respective weight classes.

Congratulations to these individual wrestlers and the entire Sapulpa wrestling team on a great season!




(SPS) -- Feb. 19 -- It was a stellar showing at the 5A Regional wrestling tournaments for Head Coach Kyle Blevins, coach Cody Fuller, and Chieftains wrestling.

Last Monday and Tuesday at the Regional 5A Girls' Tournament in Sallisaw, three wrestlers placed and qualified for the state tournament.

Liz Cope earned first place in her weight class. Caris Moris placed second and Kassie Buckner placed fifth.

The boys' team traveled to Pryor to wrestle in Regionals last Friday and Saturday. They placed as follows in their weight divisions:

Cavin Peper - Regional Runner-up
Jackson Willingham - 5th
Ethan Peterson - 5th
Blake Hurt - Regional Runner-up
Cooper Thomas - 3rd
Caleb Turner - 5th
Xander Konell - 5th

Christian Cue and Jackson Mills placed 6th and will go to state as alternates.

Wrestlers in first through fifth place head to the state tournament Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25 at Jim Norick arena at the fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.
