WORLD HISTORY      Full-Year Class Grades:  10 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Social Studies Course Description:  World History will explore the development of early humans, cultures, religions, and civilizations. It will focus on specific cultures in order to identify certain historical trends and characteristics common to all cultures. The first semester is primarily Early Eastern Hemisphere cultures while the 2nd semester is focused on the Western Cultures.

HONORS WORLD HISTORY        Full-Year Class Grades:  10 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Social Studies; advanced class on 5.0 GPA scale Course Description: Students will be expected to take essay tests, do outside reading, and complete group and individual research assignments at a minimum of one major project twice each semester, using appropriate documentation and a variety of sources.  This course, primarily the Ancient History of Eastern cultures in the first semester and Western Hemisphere cultures in the second semester, will prepare the student to take AP U.S. and AP Modern European History courses.

UNITED STATES HISTORY  Full-Year Class Grades: 11 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Social Studies Course Description:  This course will cover elements of the transformation of the American nation, 1878 to the present.  Students will develop social studies literacy and writing skills. The first semester will focus on topics ranging from the Post-Reconstruction era to the 1920s.  Second semester will include topics ranging from the Great Depression to the present day.  This course is a requirement for H.S. graduation and there will be an End of Instruction exam.

AP MODERN EUROPEAN HISTORY       Full-Year Class Grades: 11-12 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Social Studies; advanced class on 5.0 GPA scale

Fees: Student pays reduced price for AP exam in May Course Description: This course is intended to prepare the student for college courses and the Advanced Placement exam for college credit. It requires a good deal of reading and writing. Special outside readings, including important novels or philosophical works of the era, are required twice each semester.  The course will focus on the evolving history, art and philosophies of Europe beginning pre Renaissance and continuing through modern day. Topics include: The Renaissance, age of Discovery, the Baroque, the age of Revolutions, the rise of democracies, Napoleonic Wars, World Wars, etc.

AP UNITED STATES HISTORY       Full-Year Class Grades: 11-12 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Social Studies; advanced class on 5.0 GPA scale

Course Description: This course in United States History is designed to provide students with analytical skills and enduring understandings necessary to deal critically with problems and materials in United States history.  The course is a survey of the nation’s history from 1492 to the present using a college-level textbook.  Students are also required to write college-level essays, read and interpret materials and participate in class discussion in preparation for the AP exam. This course will prepare the student to take the US History AP test for college credit.
