ALL SPANISH CLASSES:
In these high school level classes, students receive instruction in how to communicate in Spanish using topical vocabulary appropriate for each level. They will also participate in activities both at school and at home each week that will develop their ability to listen, understand, speak, read, and write in Spanish. The culture and history of Hispanic people will also be studied through readings, video, music, and art. The planning, organization, classification, and verbalization of new ideas to enhance the development of thinking skills.  Students are expected to create and perform public presentations in Spanish based on their level of study.


SPANISH I        Full-Year Class Grades: 10-12 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Foreign Language Course Description: Spanish 1 emphasizes beginning vocabulary through speaking, reading, writing, listening and basic grammar. Emphasis is placed on descriptions and speaking in the Present tense. 


SPANISH II      Full-Year Class Grades: 10-12 Prerequisite:  Spanish 1 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Foreign Language Course Description: Spanish 2 emphasizes raising functional communication skills, culture, and adding more vocabulary. In this second course there is continued practice with present tense verbs (both Regular and Irregular verbs) as well as an emphasis on learning one of the Past tense verbs (Preterite).  Students demonstrating advanced skills in Spanish will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the National Spanish exam format. Students will take practice tests prior to having the opportunity to take this exam in which they can compete for national recognition.

HONORS SPANISH III    

Full-Year Class Grades: 10-12 Prerequisite:  Spanish 2 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Foreign Language Course Description: Spanish 3 emphasizes individual communicative skills and preparation for college-placement testing. In this third course of Spanish, previous grammar structures and verb tenses are reviewed and practiced with an emphasis on the Past tense verbs (Preterite and Imperfect).  Students will begin to get acquainted with the National Spanish exam format and take practice tests prior to having the opportunity to take this exam in which they can compete for national recognition. Students will receive honors credit for this course.

HONORS SPANISH IV    Full-Year Class Grades: 10-12 Prerequisite:  Spanish 3 Credit Value: .5 per semester/Foreign Language Course Description:  Spanish 4 is designed to review all verb structures and grammar concepts learned in the previous three levels of Spanish. Particular emphasis will be placed on the Subjunctive mood verbs (present and past).  Students will learn new vocabulary while reviewing words they are familiar with as well. There will be speaking, reading, writing, and listening components to the course as well. Students will have a continued opportunity to participate in the National Spanish Exam.  Students successfully completing this course have a greater opportunity to CLEP/test out of Spanish 1 and 2 in college. This is a rigorous course designed to challenge students and develop their language skills.  Students will receive honors credit for this course.
