New student Chromebooks delivered to SPS

(SPS) -- Sapulpa Public Schools librarians are tagging and performing inventory on 550 brand new student Chromebooks recently delivered to the district.
The Chromebooks, with updated operating systems to accommodate state testing platforms, will be distributed to mostly to Sapulpa Middle School students to replace eight-year-old devices
SPS Instructional Technology Coordinator Carla Cale says the Chromebooks were purchased with $178,000 in ESSER III funding.
Mrs. Cale notes that Sapulpa Public Schools sees a two percent loss of Chromebooks due to loss, damage or waning performance, as opposed to a ten percent loss which is the average reported by school districts of similar size. That lower loss rate saves the district a tremendous amount of money in Chromebook maintenance and replacement fees. She credits Chrome Depot, librarians' careful handling of the devices, and Chromebook insurance and handling guidelines for the success of Sapulpa's Chromebook initiative. Chromebooks are not sent home with elementary students unless a distance learning day is anticipated. Secondary students must turn them in at the end of the school year and check them out again at the start of the year in August.
SPS contracted with Trafera for the Chromebooks. The company can provide ongoing maintenance in Muskogee.
