The Book and Snack Mobile is a converted school bus that has been gutted and replaced with shelves containing books, a refrigerator to hold cold water, and cabinets to stock snacks all in an effort to keep children reading and fed throughout the summer months. It will travel around the community to select locations on designated days this summer between June 2 and July 23.
MONDAYS
9:30 to 10:15 a.m. - The Salvation Army, 1721 S. Hickory
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. - Timbers Apartments, 1285 Cheyenne Rd.
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - Jefferson Heights Elementary, 1521 Wickham Road (Summer Feeding)
TUESDAYS
9:30 to 10:15 a.m. - First Church of God, 1000 E Taft, West of QT
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. - First United Bank, Main & Taft (STEM kits)
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. -First Baptist Church, 200 S. Elm (Free lunch and story time)
WEDNESDAYS
9:30 to 10:15 a.m. - Kelly Lane Park, 1152 S. Park
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. - The Way Church, 911 E. Dewey (STEM kits)
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - Gaslamp Apartments, 9101 OK-Hwy 66
Children will be able to board the bus and check out a book. Snacks will be offered outside of the bus.
The bus is a partnership between the school district and
Caring Community Friends, Creek County’s largest community food bank and emergency assistance agency. Caring Community Friends is a Tulsa Area United Way agency.
The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma approved the Book and Snack Mobile as a summer feeding site which will provide children with high-quality, kid-friendly meals without needing the capacity for refrigeration or food preparation when they visit the bus.
