Update: The Lady Chieftains ended an incredible season in the semifinal round of the state tournament, when they were defeated 59-50 by El Reno.
(SPS) -- The reigning 5A State Champion Lady Chieftains basketball team heads to Norman Thursday to defend their title.
The Lady Chieftains, led by head coach Darlean Calip, defeated Shawnee in the Regional Championship held on March 1 at the Chieftain Center.
They then handily defeated Noble, 70-41, in the Area Championship Tournament on March 3.
They head to Norman North to play Lawton MacArthur on Thursday, March 10, at 2:00 p.m. The State Tournament continues Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Chieftains defeated Tahlequah last March to claim the 5A State title.
