Getting to know our School Resource Officer
Posted on 10/28/2021
(SPS) -- It is National First Responders Day and we sat down with Sapulpa Public Schools' School Resource Officer (SRO) Jonathan Noah to find out more about him after his first few months on the job.

Patrolman Noah is new to Sapulpa Public Schools, having started as the SRO over the summer. But, he's been with the Sapulpa Police Department for five years. He was a member of the Southwest Area Tactical Team for two years.

Q&A with Patrolman Noah:

Q: What made you want to become the School Resource Officer?
Noah: "I've always had a passion for working with youth as a youth minister and working in children's homes. Being able to help children and youth when they encounter problems and find ways to overcome issues and make a better life for themselves has always been a passion of mine."

Q: What special programs will you help bring to Sapulpa Public Schools?
Noah: "I get the opportunity to help instill the K9 program in the schools, to be able to introduce the students to the dogs and let them know how they work. We're in Red Ribbon Week right now, so I'm helping with the elementary schools to deliver presentations on medicine safety."

Q: You will work with PreK all the way through 12th grade, what are the differences in your message for each student age group?
Noah: "With the elementary students, we're heroes. I definitely have to go into each encounter knowing who my audience is. With the older students, I want them to know I'm an authority but my goal is their safety."

Q: What do you want our students to know about you?
Noah: "I want them to know I'm someone that they can trust. If they've got very important stuff to bring to me,  we can have that conversation in a way where they feel safe. I definitely want everyone to know they can come up and talk to me. I like a lot of the same things they like: I like sports, I like music. I want to be approachable and relatable to them. And, I think the more students have come up and spoken to me, they're going to see that, and I think the word's going to spread."

So if you see Patrolman Noah around your campus, say hello. Welcome to Sapulpa Public Schools, Patrolman Noah!
