New JROTC building(SPS) -- Sapulpa High School Principal Seth Shibley was handed the keys to the new JROTC Building on Monday night.

Major Jerry Swepston, former instructor of Sapulpa High School JROTC, and Assistant Superintendent Johnny Bilby spoke to the Sapulpa School Board of Education about the completion of the facility four months after ground was broken.

The 60’ x 80’ metal building, attached to the high school, will serve as a drill hall for JROTC cadets, but will also be used by the engineering and robotics programs as well.

The facility was approximately $160,000 to build and completely funded through private donations.

“Once again it showed what our community is about. When something needs to be done for our students, people step up,” said Mr. Bilby.

The hall will now give the cadets a place of their own to practice indoors and out of the elements.

Shortly after the board voted unanimously to accept the new building, Major Swepston gave Mr. Bilby a celebratory hug and then handed over the keys.

JROTC will be able to begin using the building soon after the lighting is installed.
