Kindness is Our Culture

(SPS) -- Sapulpa Public Schools launches a district-wide kindness initiative starting Thursday, August 27. Each Thursday is designated "Thoughtful Thursday," during which students will see and discuss kindness in action.

Defined by the motto "Kindness is our Culture," students in each school will watch a video illustrating an act of kindness, then have a group discussion on the importance of that act of kindness, including how it affected others and its lasting impact. Thoughtful Thursdays are based around the Character Counts Kindness 101 series featuring special reports from CBS News reporter Steve Hartman.

In the first installment of Thoughtful Thursdays, students will meet an 11-year-old boy from Choctaw, Oklahoma, who wows at his school talent show, and displays bravery. They'll gain a better understanding of the bravery it takes to share one's authentic self and identify ways to better support each other. The goal, always, is to show students that kindness is our culture, and that their words and actions can positively impact our community 365 days a year.
