Sapulpa student athletes volunteer during busy holiday time

(SPS) -- It's the most wonderful time of the year! And, Sapulpa student athletes are giving back so everyone can have a joyous Christmas season.

Members of Sapulpa High School's Golf and Cross Country teams spent their Wednesday afternoon at Caring Community Friends on Burnham Avenue, organizing hundreds of donated gifts. They sorted through toys, games, gadgets and more to make sure Sapulpa area children in need can open gifts on Christmas morning.

Caring Community Friends operates Creek County's largest food pantry and offers emergency assistance to families. Sapulpa's student athletes have made lending a helping hand at the agency a holiday tradition.

It's part of Caring Community Friends' Hope for the Holidays and Christmas Stars programs, which provide gifts and food to struggling families in Sapulpa and surrounding areas.

Caring Community Friends also operates the Food4Kids Backpack Program, purchasing and packing more than 150,000 kid-friendly, nutritious snacks annually for children in our community. Students from Sapulpa's schools can take home the backpacks each week.

Visit the Caring Community Friends website to learn more, or look for holiday donation drives throughout the community.
