Sapulpa football heads to quarterfinals

(SPS) -- For the first time in 20 years, Chieftains football will go to state quarterfinals.
Following the Chieftains 46-31 victory over Lawton Eisenhower in the first round of playoffs, held at Collins Stadium last Friday, the Chieftains will now go to the next round in the 6A-II quest for a state title.
Led by Coach Tim Holt, Jr., this was the first playoff held at home since 2005. The Chieftains are playing in class 6A for the first time since 2021.
“We hit a couple big runs and big passes there in the first half that got us back into it, and we made a couple of adjustments defensively going into the second half,” Holt told the Tulsa World. “We started doubling them and were able to stay on top of them a little bit, and not give up any points in the second half, except for the safety at the end. But we knew we had something going with the run game. We just had to stay with it. We had a lot of guys going both ways. So we just had to keep pounding on them and tire them down a little.”
The Chieftains, 5-6 on the season, will face Choctaw (8-2) on Friday, November 22, at Choctaw at 7:00 p.m. OSSAA passes will be the only passes accepted ($7 pre-purchase, $10 cash at gate). Purchase tickets by clicking here. Choctaw High School has a clear bag policy.
