SPS seeks business partners for internships

(SPS) -- Sapulpa Public Schools is incorporating internships into our new Educational Pathways program. We are seeking community, business, and industry partners to grow the internship program.

Peyton Leonard, a junior at Sapulpa High School, interns at Sapulpa-based Reed Architecture for two hours a day.

"I'm planning on [studying architecture]
in college, so I want to see if I really like it and see if I want to pursue it, and right now I do," said Peyton.

Peyton is getting real, hands-on experience, working on designs for actual projects at the firm.

"She's working on a project for PSO," said David Reed, owner of Reed Architecture and Interiors. "Having her in our office, she can see how our architects interact with each other, interact with clients, engineers and consultants. It is a very valuable opportunity."

"We try to align student internships with their ICAP career goals," said Ashley Tselee, SPS' College and Career Readiness Coordinator. "Students are able to apply for opportunities within the community and work directly with mental health facilities, architecture, real estate, and the public school system."

"It definitely gives me experience for when I do get a job in the field," said Peyton. "I would highly recommend doing an internship if you're planning on pursuing that subject in college, or maybe as a career. I feel like an internship gives you a head start."

"Our mission statement at this firm is serve by design, and what better way than to serve our schools?" said David Reed.

Tselee says SPS is looking for businesses, restaurants, entrepreneurs and professionals to partner with our students to give them an engaging experience and mentorship to guide them through what a career path looks like in a particular field.
