Sapulpa Public School Foundation awards over $61,000 in teacher grants

(SPS) – The Sapulpa Public School Foundation has awarded a total of $61,236.90 in teacher grants, split among 57 teachers across the district.
The Grants-to-Teachers Program provides Sapulpa Public Schools teachers with funds for the development and implementation of innovative teaching projects. Teachers must submit ideas and summaries for their projects. Freedom Elementary received the most grants, 17, followed by Liberty Elementary with 16.
Grants are funded through private and corporate donations to the Annual John Cockrum Golf Tournament, held in September, as well as other donations made to the Sapulpa Public School Foundation. Once teacher proposals are submitted, a Foundation committee prioritizes grants based on imaginative projects to inspire students, generate enthusiasm and promote academic excellence.
Teachers from all eight Sapulpa Public Schools sites received grants for education projects and classroom tools. The grants will pay for projects and classroom supplies from outdoor learning kits and sensory tools to beekeeping supplies, flexible classroom furniture, and drones.
The Sapulpa Board of Education approved the grants at November’s regular board meeting.
“Sapulpa really comes together for our schools, and the support of our teachers is inspiring year after year,” said Rob Armstrong, Superintendent of Sapulpa Public Schools, who surprised teachers at each site with grant certificates this week. “These grants will afford our teachers additional, creative tools to improve the classroom and learning experience for our students.”
Mr. Armstrong, along with Donia Doudican, the district’s Executive Director of Teaching and Learning and Assistant Superintendent Johnny Bilby, personally handed out the grants to teachers ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday break.
Sapulpa Public Schools would like to thank the corporations, community partners, and individuals who donated to this year’s Sapulpa Public School Foundation campaign.
The Sapulpa Public School Foundation, Inc. was established in April 1990. It is a broad-based, non-profit, community organization which secures and distributes contributions for the benefit of students in Sapulpa Public Schools.
