New Sapulpa High School construction is moving quickly

(SPS) -- Construction is moving at a rapid pace at the site of the future Sapulpa High School campus. Nice weather over the Winter Break and into January has aided crews from Nabholz Construction and Sapulpa-based Bennett Steel as they work to build the new high school.
District administrators say they hope to see construction completed and the new high school opening its doors in mid-to-late 2027. Upon returning for the 2026 spring semester, teachers and staff members toured the site with Assistant Superintendent Johnny Bilby.
The future-ready high school will support Sapulpa's core and advanced curriculum, the Routes to Success educational pathways programs, as well as the district's numerous activities and opportunities for students to explore.

The cornerstone of the project will be the state-of-the-art Sapulpa Performing Arts Center, at the corner of mission and Dewey. The 1,200-seat venue will feature balcony seating, an orchestra pit, and an adjacent band hall which doubles as a storm shelter.

The high school project is running concurrently with athletic facility additions at Chieftain Center, including auxiliary gyms, training areas and concessions. An end zone facility project will soon begin at Collins Stadium.

The new high school is especially exciting for the Sapulpa community, as the city nears completion of an overhaul of Dewey Avenue to attract more visitors to Sapulpa's growing downtown. Once completed, district leaders hope the new high school building will become a landmark for the community and historic Route 66.

The new high school and additional construction and site improvement projects across the district are funded by the 2023 Chieftain Stronger bond proposal, passed by voters in September, 2023, and totaling $279 million.
