tulsa international airport mural sapulpa teacher(SPS) -- Next time you take off from Tulsa International Airport, you'll get a stunning 'bon voyage' in the form of a large mural created by a Sapulpa teacher.

Sapulpa Junior High art teacher Carmen Taylor designed and painted the new IMAGINE mural outside of departures at Tulsa International Airport.

The mural boldly displays the word IMAGINE, behind three children holding paper airplanes and a Tulsa flag and a scissortail flycatcher (Oklahoma's state bird).

"The mural is meant to inspire both children and adults, to think about what all life has to offer and imagine the possibilities," said Ms. Taylor.

Ms. Taylor was awarded a Tulsa Creates Together grant through Living Arts of Tulsa to create the mural. The mural design was then approved by a committee. It is one of seven art projects selected for the Tulsa Creates Together campaign, sponsored by the George Kaiser Family Foundation.

She spent over 100 hours designing and painting it, and it's something special about Tulsa that thousands will see.

"Tulsa needs to make their mark, and they're doing a good job of it. Art is important, and we need to have more of it out there," said Ms. Taylor.

Her favorite part of the mural is the "G" in the word imagine, which is melded into the shape of Oklahoma with a heart where Tulsa is.

"It's home," said Ms. Taylor.
