(SPS) -- 270 Sapulpa High School seniors received their diplomas Friday during the 116th Commencement Ceremony held at George F. Collins Stadium.

Sapulpa High School Principal Seth Shibley welcomed the graduates and recognized administration.

The Sapulpa High School Marine Corps JROTC presented the colors, and senior Aubrey Myers sang the national anthem.

Superintendent Robert Armstrong addressed the crowd with a moving speech.

"Senior class, may your light consume all darkness," Mr. Armstrong told graduates. "Do something beautiful, good, and true, and always be proud to be a Sapulpa Chieftain."

Valedictorian Madelyn Braswell called her class adaptive, referring to the changes her class faced, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Everything changed during our sophomore year," said Braswell. "Thankfully we were able to make it through and here we are today at our high school graduation. We have learned to be very adaptive and we will certainly be prepared for all that life throws at us. As we depart from Sapulpa High School, we will carry with us memories and a bit of hope."

The ceremony ended with graduates tossing their caps, followed by fireworks.
