Those were the words of Sapulpa Public Schools board member Melinda Ryan as the Sapulpa Public Schools Board of Education discussed the Edward E. and Helen Turner Bartlett Foundation grants during the January board meeting on Tuesday night.

The board voted unanimously to accept the generous grant donations of $233,465 from the Bartlett Foundation. The allocation of funds from the grants will be applied to these programs:

Kidz Kloset will receive funds from a grant to purchase new clothing items for Sapulpa students in need. Kidz Kloset is located in the basement of the Washington Administrative Center. Families in need of coats, clothing or shoes may make an appointment by calling 918-625-5245.

Established in 1961, the Bartlett Foundation gives primarily to public school education as well as awarding student scholarships to Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, University of Oklahoma, and University of Tulsa.

The Bartlett Foundation will provide for an additional STEM request, partnering with Sapulpa High School for a dollar-for-dollar match.

"STEM upgrades will include equipment and programming needed to give students quality education and experiences focused around the field of engineering," said Donia Doudican, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.

At Tuesday's meeting, board members also approved a separate, anonymous $10,000 donation for Liberty Elementary STEM Academy to be used for supplies and equipment for teachers. At next month's meeting, the board will consider an additional $10,000 grant from the same anonymous donor for Teacher of the Year awards.
