SEVERE WEATHER PROCEDURES

The district has four (4) weather days built into the instructional calendar. If snow days are used, we will use the built-in days at the end of the year. If all or some of the snow days are not used, the school year will end early for summer break.

Distance learning may be implemented in certain emergencies, especially as construction is occurring at the high school/junior high campuses and has the potential to interrupt the school day (for example, water shutoffs).

Decision-making procedures involve several factors including:
1. amount of snowfall or ice accumulation;
2. condition of residential and city streets;
3. temperature;
4. school buses' ability to navigate roads;
5. the district's ability to safely clear parking lots and sidewalks.

District administrators begin monitoring forecasts early and often when severe weather is predicted. Bus routes are traveled to assess conditions early in the morning of a potential weather day. The district strives to notify families of school closings just as soon as possible on the morning of a closure.

After-school activities are typically canceled when school is canceled for weather, but the Athletics Department will make notifications via social media if certain sporting events are still going to be held.

Notifications will go out via automated calls and emails on School Messenger.

To receive district text messaging, you must opt in by texting "YES" to 67587. Standard messaging rates apply, you may opt out any time, and the cell phone number must match your students' contact information in Power School.

School closing notifications will be posted on the district social media accounts (FacebookInstagram and X), and the district website. Local television and radio stations will also be notified.

If school is open, a message will not be sent. Please assume school is open unless a notification is sent.
