(SPS) -- It was a double header for one Chieftain this week, she got her driver's license and she earned a big honor!

Sophomore soccer player Alex Terrones received the Sapulpa Chieftains Athletics Core Value Award for the month of February on Thursday.

The award is given monthly to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the values of Sapulpa Chieftains Athletics - character, humility, commitment, integrity, self-control, mental toughness, team, responsibility, honor, and service.

The winner is selected after nominations are submitted by the coaches and reviewed by the athletics department.

Terrones was recognized for the Core Value of Teamwork.

"Alex is the athlete that never puts her needs in front of her team. She comes to practice with a smile on her face every day and continually works as hard as she can to better herself and her teammates. She never asks why but rather, what can I do to get better for our team," said Athletic Director Michael Rose as he presented Terrones with a plaque.

The Core Value Award is sponsored by Tier One Lawn, which presents each winner of the award a QuikTrip gift card.
