(Article by Riley Groves, SPS Communications/Marketing Intern) -- Sapulpa Public Schools has once again helped the Tulsa Area United Way surpass its annual goal! TAUW had a goal to raise $25,493,060 for its member agencies.

SPS contributed $30,782.41 to that goal through a combination of employee and student fundraising efforts. Because of the generous contributions, SPS earned a spot in the United Way's Top 100 Giving Companies. The district was named one of TAUW's Leaders in Giving, and was recognized at the annual Live United Awards ceremony on March 8.

Other recognitions for generous contributions to this year's TAUW campaign include:

Bartlett Academy - Gold Award for organizations with employees (per capita) giving $125 or more

Holmes Park Elementary - Silver Award for organizations with employees (per capita) giving $90-$124

SPS Administration, Freedom Elementary, Jefferson Heights Elementary, Sapulpa Middle School - Bronze Award for organizations with employees (per capita) giving $55-89

Sapulpa High School, Sapulpa Junior High, Liberty STEM Elementary - Achievement Award for organizations with employees (per capita) giving $45-54

Bartlett Academy, Freedom Elementary, Sapulpa High School, Holmes Park Elementary, Jefferson Heights Elementary, Sapulpa Junior High - Tulsa World Challenge for giving 10% more than last year

More than 900 companies participated in the annual campaign. SPS Superintendent Rob Armstrong, who helped spearhead campaign fundraising in the Sapulpa area, said he's elated the district came together to give back to the many agencies that support our students and their families.

Last year, the Tulsa Area United Way served more than half a million people in the six-county region which includes residents of Sapulpa.
  • 382 students in the Sapulpa area received counseling from Youth Services of Creek County
  • More than 3,840 people received assistance from The Salvation Army Creek County Boys & Girls Club
  • Over 4,000 families received emergency services and basic needs from Caring Community Friends
The partnership with Caring Community Friends allowed Sapulpa Public Schools to build a Mobile Book Bus, which provides children in the community with food and books during the summer months. The Mobile Book Bus will enter its third year of operations in the summer of 2022.

Sapulpa Public Schools has historically raised tens of thousands for the Tulsa Area United Way, helping the non-profit organization to surpass its fundraising goals for its partner agencies.

SPS was also nominated for the Green Country Business Award this year, awarded to a company that increases the size of its campaign year over year. This year, we congratulate OG&E of Sapulpa, which earned the award.
