Sapulpa NHS excels at serving the community

(SPS) -- The Sapulpa Chapter of the National Honor Society excels both in the classroom and in the community! NHS logged 81 hours of service in August; many of those hours before school even got back in session.

The NHS Press Team summarized the group's commitment to service:

"Before the new school year started, Exec Board members Ryan Walker and Jaselyn Rossman were eager to help our art department. Jaselyn and Ryan gathered volunteers and helped prepare the art rooms for students.

"Kiley Peterson, Jaselyn Rossman, and Rebecca Woods organized clean up crews in various places around our community. Kiley Peterson lead the Liberty Elementary Clean-up on August 11th, while Rebecca Woods and her group of volunteers made sure to make our high school windows spick and span.

"This was also our first Chieftain Community Kickoff at Sapulpa High School. Jaselyn Rossman and several NHS members stayed behind an extra hour to make sure our school looked good as new after the event.

"Exec board leaders Grace Givens and Brooklyn Berry led a group of volunteers in the Food Pantry at the high school.

"Kayla Bartgis assembled a cohort of volunteers and spent time helping our friends over at Caring Community Friends assemble backpacks for those in need.

"NHS gives its August “BIG SHOUT!” to Ally Rapp. She secured donations from individuals and businesses around town to prepare Back to School bags to distribute in the classroom. Ally also gathered a group of volunteers at CTX coffee to prepare and distribute over 200 bags to classrooms containing basic school supplies."

The group continued its service in September, cleaning up downtown Sapulpa following the Route 66 Blowout Car Show and Festival on September 11.

"I wish I could tell the world about the elite leaders at SHS. They truly are incredible and the work they do is inspiring," said Sarah Bacon-Kellogg, Sapulpa HS anatomy/physiology & zoology instructor NHS sponsor. "We are grateful for the ways our NHS Exec Board helps us reach our service goals each month."
