Girl Scouts donate more blessing boxes

Blessing box donation(SPS) -- They couldn’t have been blessed with a nicer day to deliver two additional blessing boxes promised to Sapulpa Public Schools.

Under bright skies and warm weather, Girl Scout Troop 73, along with a little help from adults, donated blessing boxes to Holmes Park and Freedom elementary schools on Monday. The blessing boxes are filled with school supplies for students in need.

These are the fourth and fifth of eight boxes the troop has constructed as part of its assignment to earn a Silver Award. Their assignment was to find a problem and figure out a long-term solution. The girls said the “problem” they discovered is that not all students have or can afford school supplies. The solution? A blessing box filled with supplies for each of the campuses in the district.

The idea is that any student who needs crayons, an eraser, glue, a ruler, a spiral notebook, or just about any other school supplies can find those items right outside the school. And, anyone is welcome to refill the boxes with donated school supplies.

The blessing boxes have been built in a couple of different forms. There is a pencil at Jefferson Heights, a crayon at Freedom and Holmes Park, and the Junior-Senior High School and Middle School campuses have a school bus. A box in the form of a schoolhouse is the next design.

The troop has three more boxes on deck now, one each for Liberty Elementary STEM Academy, Bartlett Academy, and Washington Administrative Center. The project will be completed in September.
