Brandon Niyah and Michael Rose(SPS) -- Fresh off a Regional Championship this weekend, the young men of Sapulpa Chieftains Basketball had another reason to celebrate this week.

One of their own won the Sapulpa Chieftains Athletics Core Value Award for the month of February.

Senior Brandon Niyah received the award at the beginning of practice on Monday.

The award is given monthly to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the values of Sapulpa Chieftains Athletics - character, humility, commitment, integrity, self-control, mental toughness, teamwork, responsibility, honor, and service.

The winner is selected after nominations are submitted by the coaches and reviewed by the athletics department.

Brandon was recognized for the Core Value of Teamwork.

“His composure on the court, his effort and encouragement of others, his giving his all, and him doing the small things off the court, shows that he truly cares about his team and their success,” said Athletic Director Michael Rose, reading from the nomination form describing Brandon.

The Core Value Award is sponsored by Tier One Lawn. Winners of the award receive a QuikTrip gift card courtesy of Tier One.
