School Zone Camp slated for Aug. 6, 7, 8
Posted on 07/03/2019
School Zone 2018(SPS) - If you have a child making the transition from elementary school to 6th grade in the 2019-20 year, School Zone camp is for your student.

School Zone is a three-day summer camp offered to incoming sixth graders with the goal of familiarizing those students to middle school life.

Students are given the opportunity to become familiar with the school building, staff, and the routine of a middle school day. This camp provides the students with the opportunity to spend time with teachers and other students and become familiar with the school facility in a comfortable setting.

Students participate in activities that allow them to practice the types of daily procedures and functions they will be expected to perform during the regular year. They will also participate in academic, social, and intramural activities within rotating cooperative groups.

By the end of the camp students are able to locate the common areas and 6th-grade classrooms, read a typical schedule, open a combination locker, and know who to contact in case of a problem.

Students will have a chance to become acquainted with students from the other elementary schools in the district. Participants in this camp form new friendships and establish a support system to use throughout middle school.
