Thoroughly Modern Millie(SPS) - The show must go on.

That’s true for two Sapulpa High School theatre students following the final performance of the school’s spring musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Senior Joshua Terrones and junior Princy Mendenhall were selected by judges to participate in the Eastern Oklahoma High School Musical Theatre Discovery Awards in May.

The regional competition will feature 30 students from 14 schools in eastern Oklahoma with one girl and one boy taking home the award and a trip to New York City for the national competition that includes a weeklong trip on Broadway for The Jimmy Awards.

Joshua and Princy will compete against students from Bishop Kelley, Booker T. Washington, Broken Arrow, Bristow, Edison, Enid, Fort Gibson, Jenks, Memorial, Metro Christian, Owasso, Riverfield, and Union.

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmys) are in its 11th year and is comprised of more than 1,500 schools and 100,000 students. It’s the first year for The Discovery Awards, the only program for theatre students in Oklahoma. It was conceived through a partnership between Celebrity Attractions and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center to highlight and award excellence in musical theatre.

Judges attended the musical productions of the participating schools and selected the best female and best male performer from each high school. Those who were chosen will spend a week in late May at a theatre boot camp culminating with the awards show on May 24th at the Tulsa PAC. The winners will then vie for the national Jimmy Awards in June.

Princy played the role of Miss Dorothy Brown and Joshua took the lead male role of Jimmy Smith in TMM. For the Discovery Awards, both will reprise those characters and sing their featured song in a medley of songs from all of the different high school productions. They will also learn new ensembles to perform.

The Discovery Awards are open to the public. You can purchase tickets here for $25.

Congratulations to both Joshua and Princy! Below, you can watch the videos each of them appeared in to talk about their characters in Thoroughly Modern Millie.
