Temira Poindexter and Michael Rose(SPS) -- It's been one heck of a run for senior Temira Poindexter.

First, she and the Lady Chieftains brought home the Gold Ball as the 5A Basketball State Champions. Temira followed that up by earning the Player of the Year honor in the Frontier Valley Conference. And then, she was named to the All State team.

But, Temira's not done.

She has been given the Sapulpa Chieftains Athletics Core Value Award for the month of March.

The award is given monthly to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the values of Sapulpa Chieftains Athletics - character, humility, commitment, integrity, self-control, mental toughness, teamwork, responsibility, honor, and service.

The winner is selected after nominations are submitted by the coaches and reviewed by the athletics department.

Temira was recognized for the Core Value of Responsibility.

“Through the last couple of years, I have observed her maturity and growth into a silent leader holding her teammates accountable in a constructive way,” said Athletic Director Michael Rose, reading from the nomination form describing Temira.

"She has grown into being an independent decision-maker and we're excited for her growth."

The Core Value Award is sponsored by Tier One Lawn. Winners of the award receive a QuikTrip gift card courtesy of Tier One.
