A Warrior Spirit by Bryan Waytula(SPS) -- Sapulpa Indian Education is hosting a silent auction to help support a scholarship opportunity.

The Sapulpa Indian Education: American Indian Artwork auction went online this month and continues until March 7. The proceeds will go toward the Mose Cahwee and Johnson O’Malley scholarship. The scholarship honors Mr. Cahwee who directed Sapulpa’s first Indian Education program in 1970.

Three items are up for auction: A Warrior Spirit canvas print and two Heavy Thoughts framed prints. The pieces were done by Sapulpa High School graduates.

A Warrior Spirit is a 30 ½ by 23 ½ canvas print by Oklahoma Cherokee artist Bryan Waytula. The print features a Native American intently focusing on a target as he prepares to release a loaded arrow from his bow.

Heavy Thoughts is a 12 x 16 framed print by Muscogee Creek artist George Alexander. The piece was originally created in Florence, Italy and depicts a buffalo standing on a floating couch amid clouds. The idea behind the piece is that your thoughts don’t weigh anything, therefore you shouldn’t let them weigh heavy on your heart.

Heavy Thoughts

Heavy Thoughts #1 has a gray-tinted frame and Heavy Thoughts #2 has a brown-tinted frame.

You can bid on the pieces by logging on to the 32 Auctions website here.

Sapulpa Indian Education serves to help Native American students meet academic, social, and cultural needs, as well as college and career planning for participating students. Johnson O'Malley is one of two grants Sapulpa Indian Education receives from the federal government to support local programs.
